Third town hall meeting held on September 25th, 2022. This was an informational question and answer session to offer question and answers relating to the future of the UMC and of Hopewell.

Due to technical difficulties, the audio started at 7:25 min.

United Methodist congregations all over the United States are aware of a clause in the Book of Discipline (the disaffiliation clause) allowing congregations to leave the UMC with their property if they do so before December of 2023. This has brought many to ask questions and look into the benefits of staying or leaving. The Hopewell Administrative Council approved a motion to bring in authorities on the issues.

Rob Mitchell is a representative of the Wesleyan Covenant Association - a group of traditional Wesleyan advocates who encourage traditional congregations to disaffiliate. Rob spoke to the Hopewell congregation on Sunday, May 15th.

On May 22nd, Greg Porterfield, the Hopewell District Superintendent (South East District) presented information supporting congregations staying in the UMC.

We hope you will watch both presentations below and contact us with any questions you may have. This is an important time for United Methodist congregations, and being best informed means going to the sources of each opinion.
